St Therese of Lisieux
The Making of a Saint
by John Beevers
She lived 24 years and was an obscure nun for nine of those. Yet she is known the world over by Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Dead in 1897 and was canonized in 1925, her statue soon appeared in most Catholic churches in the world. With St. Joan of Arc, she shares the title "Patroness of France" and with St. Francis Xavier the honor of "Principal Patroness of all Missionaries." Her devotees acknowledge her as a second St. Jude in her powerful intercession with God. Her appeal is universal—from peasants to popes—and people of all stations know her and call upon her for help.
What factors conspired to shape St. Therese of the Child Jesus? John Beevers addresses this question in Saint Therese of the Little Flower: The Making of a Saint. As author of an earlier biography, The Storm of Glory, and as translator of her autobiography, The Story of a Soul, he brings to his task an authority on her life unsurpassed perhaps by any writer in English.
The story of this life is a marvel—a miracle—of divine grace. For the life of St. Therese is the lesson to all men: one of spiritual greatness to be achieved by perfect love of God and total consecration of all our actions, even the smallest, to His greater honor and glory.

The Story of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux
by John Beevers
“Love to be unknown and accounted as nothing.” These words from the Imitation of Christ might well have been the motto of Thérèse of the Child Jesus, the “Little Flower” of Lisieux, who is now hailed as the “greatest saint of modern times.” The story of her soul is now universally known: born to Louis and Zélie Martin in 1873, she joined—in spite of stern opposition—the Carmelite community of Lisieux at the age of just fifteen. For little more than nine years, she lived the Carmelite life of prayer, silence and austerity, suffering in body from tuberculosis and striving in spirit to follow “the little way” by which she hoped to gain eternal life, until her death at the age of twenty-four in 1897.
Storm of Glory: Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, originally published in 1949, is an excellent and vivid introduction to the life and lessons of the Little Flower. The fruit of John Beevers’ diligent research and careful study of the relevant materials available to date, Storm of Glory succinctly conveys the power and significance of Saint Thérèse’s message to the modern world: namely, that God is not dead, but is alive; He lives, He is life itself, and He promises that same life, in abundance, to any and all who will accept it from His crucified hands.

A beautiful story about the most popular saint of modern times, St. Therese of Lisieux, the "Little Flower." Growing up in Lisieux, France was occasionally painful but usually delightful for Therese and her four sisters. For practical Marie, studious Pauline, hot-tempered Leonie, mischievous Celine, and beautiful, lovable Therese, growing up meant growing closer to God. The Little Flower found her pathway to holiness right in her own back yard.
With their disagreements, secrets, visits to the convent, school adventures, and romances, these five girls are an enjoyable handful for their kindly, widowed father. But Therese, because she loves her family, discovers that one of her sisters might unwittingly prevent her dearest wish from coming true.

Stronger than Steel
Soldiers of the Great War Write to Thérèse of Lisieux
Translated by Sr Marie de l'Enfant Jesus
“In my distress, I cried out with absolute faith: ‘Over here, Sister Thérèse!’ No sooner had I uttered these words than the saint suddenly appeared to me, bright and with a large halo. With her mighty hand, she abruptly stopped the enemy’s shooting, and not a single shell was released any more, until I arrived in Verdun.” (May 1916) “I saw a sort of brightness, and the little Sister Thérèse who was looking at me with a smile. Oh, what kind eyes this saint had for me!” (June 1917) “I began to pray to the little Sister to have mercy on me, for I was without courage at the moment, and she appeared to me as she is on her image, but without telling me anything; I only felt she was protecting me, it was as if I read in her eyes: ‘I am here, do not fear anything.’” (October 1918)
In the seventeen years between her death in 1897 and the outbreak of World War I, the fame of Thérèse of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face had spread widely, especially in France and its colonies: her autobiography The Story of a Soul was hugely popular, and soldiers carried around holy cards, medals, and relics. This remarkable collection of letters from (mostly French) soldiers fighting in the Great War and enduring its abysmal horrors are astonishing and moving testimonies of how Thérèse appeared to them or spoke to them when invoked—how she miraculously protected them from “showers of iron and fire,” delivered them from precipitous danger, healed them when doctors despaired, and encouraged them in the trials of battle.
Shedding new light on the enduring mission of this beloved saint, Stronger than Steel will rekindle the reader’s devotion to “the greatest saint of modern times” (in the words of her devotee, Pope Pius X).

The Home of St. Therese
by Fr. Stéphane-Joseph Piat, OFM
Meet the family where the Little Flower took root.
In her Story of a Soul, St. Thérèse relates how influential her family life was in forming her spiritual life. Now, the canonization of her parents, Louis and Zélie, and the cause for the beatification of her sister Léonie speak volumes for the robust sanctity of the Martin family.
The Martins took no smooth path to sanctity. They endured the loss of four children, financial troubles, and the cancer that caused Zélie’s death. The key to their success was simply this: love. With love, they endured both great sorrows and the countless little troubles of everyday life.
This is the story of a husband, wife, and five daughters who formed a close-knit, thoroughly Catholic family. Their lives set an example for anyone who seeks to raise a family in love and to live the Faith in daily life.

by Benedict Williamson
St Therese and the Faithful is a practical manual which makes this great saint and doctor’s little way applicable to those living in the world.
Benedict Williamson shows, in this wonderful work, that the spirituality of St Therese is not just for religious, just as sainthood is not for religious only, but is for everyone. The home, just as truly as the convent, can be the school of sanctity, and St Therese leads the way.

Almire Pichon, S. J., which aided her in her daily life at Carmel and helped her to reach the heights of the spiritual life.
Inside this book one will find simple truths and profound treasures of our Catholic Faith, transmitted by a holy man to those who were placed in his care.

Pious Recreations
by St Therese of Lisieux
Over a period of about three years toward the end of her life, St. Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897) was asked by her Carmelite superiors to compose eight theatrical pieces for special occasions in her convent. She did not consider them mere trivial amusements. On the contrary, Therese invested herself wholeheartedly in the writing and performance of these little dramas, which provided a welcome opportunity to articulate her growing spiritual insights and share them with her religious community. Here we find echoes of her great themes, some where developed at greater length than anywhere else in her writings: Mary of Nazareth and Joan of Arc, humility and the little way, confidence and love, and so much more.
In the present volume, for the first time, all eight of her plays (or pious recreations, as they are sometimes called in the French) are published together in their entirety for English-speaking readers. They open a new window onto the message of the church's youngest Doctor. Also included is a masterful general introduction by the noted Theresian expert, Bishop Guy Gaucher, O.C.D., as well as individual introductions to each play explaining it in context and significance.

with entries from - The Imitation of Christ
compiled by a Benedictine of Stanbrook, Worcester
I ought to grieve at the way I go to sleep at my prayer and during my thanksgiving, and yet, I do not grieve. Instead, I cannot help thinking that little children please their parents as much when they are asleep as when they are awake, that surgeons put their patients to sleep for an operation, in short, that the Lord knoweth our frame. He remembereth that we are dust (Ps. cii).
Living a holy life can seem like a daunting task when the ordinary Christian compares himself to the great saints throughout the ages. He might think that he has not been given the opportunity, has not received the special graces, or simply does not know how to begin. This compilation is a reminder that the Lord made us, knows us, loves us and provides for us according to our condition and so we can please him, even when we are only sleeping.
When reading these excerpts from the Imitation of Christ and St Therese of Lisieux, one might forget that there are two distinct authors. What the one preached anonymously in the written word, the other exemplified in her daily life. By putting into practice what the Imitation of Christ teaches, the Little Flower shows us that every happening of our lives, whether big or small, pleasant or painful, can be turned into a childlike gift to our Heavenly Father. This book does not leave for us a set of rules to follow or tasks to accomplish. Rather, it is a daily inspiration and reminder that sanctity is achieved in and through each Christian's particular state of life and daily tasks.

An Unflinching Look at Lisieux, the Little Flower and the Little Way
by Henri Gheon
Discover the burning secrets of St. Thérèse's soul: Scores of books have been written about St. Thérèse of Lisieux, but this is the first aimed at those persons, Catholic or not, who resist her, put off by all those roses and crudely painted plastic statues . . . and even by her virtues. (Not long before she died, Thérèse's confessor assured her she had never committed a mortal sin!)
Author Henri Ghéon was once among those put off by Thérèse's sweet reputation and by the tinseled, sugary devotions to this “little saint.” Then he discovered how many good Catholics, at home in such simple devotions, were soon freed, without even realizing it, from the pretty-pretties that led them on, finding the real Thérèse beneath the sugar roses and puffy clouds, behind the platitudes and pet-names that took all the salt out of her heroic story.
They discovered — as will readers of these remarkable pages — the real Thérèse of Lisieux, an intense soul living a life of heroic grandeur amidst dull and all-too-worldly associates, a soul driven by a burning love of God even as she wrestled privately with great physical and emotional pain.
That, shows Ghéon, is what lay behind her smile. That's why she was canonized. And that's why Thérèse is the saint most fitted for our day, a model for those of us whom, whether we like it or not, God has called to hidden lives of quiet drama, desire, and holy sacrifice.

Those who attended St. Therese of Lisieux during her last illness were living in the company of one of God's "greatest" saints, one prepared for our times. Fortunately for us they did not simply listen to her conversations, but wrote down what they remembered. This volume brings together their reports of Therese's "final words" during her last months, including some of her most famous sayings, such as "I will spend my heaven doing good on earth." The book includes general and biblical index.
