Imitation of The Sacred Heart of Jesus
by Rev. Peter J. Arnoudt, SJ

Recommended to us as even better than The Imitation of Christ. Jesus speaks to the reader - through the author, of course - in short, easy-to-understand chapters that are filled with wisdom. Thereafter the soul speaks to Jesus.

This book thoughtfully covers every way in which we can perfect ourselves through devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Not only that, but it warns us against every pitfall we face in the daunting task of attaining holiness. It includes important chapters on:

• The dissatisfaction worldly goods provide
• Salvation and the Sacred Heart
• Perfection and imitation of the Sacred Heart
• Cleansing of mortal and venial sins
• Sanctifying grace
• Jesus’s life and the Sacred Heart
• Jesus’s suffering and the Sacred Heart
• Unity with the Sacred Heart

The Autobiography of Saint Margaret Mary

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque is one of the most extraordinary visionaries in the history of the Church. As the apostle of devotion to the Sacred Heart, her visions not only have full validation as authentic in virtue of their papal approval and her canonization, but have also experienced universal adoption in the Church with the promulgation of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and widespread promotion of the First Fridays devotional practice, as well as the Thursday night Holy Hour. Her fascinating life is detailed in these pages, written by her own hand—a rare gift to the Church indeed.

Devout from youth, St. Margaret Mary vowed at a young age to become a nun, but she delayed until she was 24 and could no longer withhold herself from Christ. She suffered much in her life, but she was gifted with visions of Our Lord, visions which became the basis of her promotion of the Sacred Heart devotion. In addition to the harsh (and at times seemingly excessive) penances she placed on herself, she received opprobrium from her sisters, who doubted the authenticity of her visions and mission, and much opposition from others in the Church, too. Through it all, her mission from the Lord's Sacred Heart triumphed, and she became the ultimate advocate of the furnace of Divine Charity beating for souls in Our Lord's breast.

For anyone who wishes to know more about the Sacred Heart of Jesus and how to adore It, The Autobiography of Saint Margaret Mary—the source—is one of the best ways.

The Sacred Heart and the Priesthood
by Venerable Louise Margaret Claret de la Touche

"My priest is My other self; I love him, but he must be holy."

Mother Louise Margaret Claret de la Touche (1868–1915), a Visitation sister, was commissioned first by Our Lord, then by her religious superiors to write The Sacred Heart and the Priesthood based on her lifetime of conversations with the Divine Master. Its purpose is to strengthen the souls of priests in the love of their sublime vocation, to unite them more than ever to Jesus Christ, the eternal Priest, and to give the faithful a greater confidence in and more religious and filial respect for the orders of the sacred hierarchy. (p. xxxii)

The Holy See has declared Mother Louise Margaret's writings to be in conformity with the teachings of the Church and has sanctioned the organization of priests she had drawn up under the name of the Priests' Universal Union of the Friends of the Sacred Heart. A gift for seminarians, priests, and anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding of this vocation, The Sacred Heart and the Priesthood is a profound exploration of Holy Orders made between a mystic of the Church and Our Lord Himself. Impr.

"To do My work, to extend the reign of love, priests must be full of it themselves, and it is to My Heart that they must come to draw it." Christ to Mother Louise Margaret Claret de la Touche

Pearls from the Casket of the Sacred Heart
A Collection of Letters, Maxims, and Practices of the Blessed Margaret Mary Alacoque.
Edited by Eleanor C. Donnelly.

In linking together this chain of antique pearls drawn by sainted fingers from the casket of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, it would seem to us that the chaplet were incomplete without some special mention of that pearl of great price, that blessed Margarita, for whose purchase the heavenly Merchant gave all that He had, to the end that He might possess it entirely and forever.

In the letters of a saint, in the written conceptions of a heart closely united to God, and weighing every Word in the balance of truth and purity of intention, we have assuredly the mirror of a just soul reflecting in its shining beauty the unbroken image and likeness of its Creator.

Moved by these considerations, and opining that the Infinite Wisdom, which never acts without a purpose, must have had some special design in inspiring and preserving the letters of the Blessed Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Compiler of this little work has seen fit to collect the principal part of those holy epistles within its pages, and to add thereto the maxims and practices of their saintly writer. May the perusal of her fervent words, may the imitation of her zealous practices inflame the heart of the reader with the same fire of divine love that glowed in the breast of the Blessed Margaret, and won for her from our divine Lord Himself the title of the beloved disciple of His Sacred Heart!

These Three Hearts
Saint Claude de la Columbiere, Saint Margaret Mary Aloocoque, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus
by Margaret Yeo

“My pure love unites forever these three hearts.”

These were the words spoken to St. Margaret-Mary on Friday, June 21, 1675 by Our Lord as she received Holy Communion from the hands of St. Claude de la Colombière, just after they had knelt together before the Blessed Sacrament and dedicated themselves to serve the Sacred Heart.

This was not the first time, nor the last, that Our Lord had spoken to her. Indeed, most of her life was lived in constant and intimate communion with the Sacred Heart of her spouse. The first time she laid eyes upon St. Claude Our Lord told her, “This is he whom I have sent you. He is My faithful servant and perfect friend.”

This book, unlike others about St. Margaret-Mary or the revelations of the Sacred Heart, contains the full story of St. Claude’s life and the role that he played in hers and in the task of “making known” the Sacred Heart and the promises made to those who live and promote that devotion. On May 31, 1992, Claude de la Colombière was canonized. His feast day is Feb 15.

A Story of Saint Margaret Mary
by Brother Ernest, C.S.C

This is the story of a girl who even in her youth loved to talk to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Our Lord appeared to Margaret Mary with His Heart pierced and bleeding, encircled with a crown of thorns telling her, "Behold this Heart which so loved men." He told her that wherever His Heart would be exposed and honored, He would lavish graces and blessings. Special graces are given to all who communicate on the first Friday of nine consecutive months. To anyone who promotes this devotion He said their names would be written in His Heart, never to be blotted out.
