Story of a Soul Deluxe
The Story of a Soul
The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux

“If the little flower could talk, it seems to me it would say what God has done for it quite simply and without concealment . . . This flower, in telling her story, is happy to make known all the gifts Jesus has given her.” — St. Therese of Lisieux

The beautiful style of St. Therese’s writing will capture your heart, but it will be the power and efficacy of her lessons that will keep you returning day after day.

Only written under holy obedience by the command of her superior, St. Therese’s autobiography conveys the secrets of her great holiness, which she achieved through her simple and ordinary life. It teaches her “Little Way of Spiritual Childhood,” which she called her “elevator to Heaven.” An important lesson for all Catholics, her “little way of love and confidence” is drawn directly from Scripture and has been approved by Pope Pius XI as a way to holiness for all.

Although she died at the age of 24, St. Therese was and is known for her great wisdom, and this magnum opus demonstrates the young Carmelite’s holiness and dependance on God.

St. Therese’s autobiography has become a classic of Catholic literature, and it has been translated into numerous languages. The Story of a Soul continues to grow in popularity and millions of copies are distributed worldwide.

No Catholic should be ignorant of the spiritual power of “little way” of St. Therese. This beautiful edition, which is printed in the beautiful style of all the TAN Books Catholic Classics Series, belongs on the shelf of every Catholic.

Devotion to the Sacred Heart
Devotion to the Sacred Heart
by The Benedictine Convent of Clyde

Devotion to the Sacred Heart is a powerful little booklet filled with many of the treasures to be found in the veneration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Besides containing an explanation of the symbolism found within the Image of the Sacred Heart, it also includes explanations of the 9 First Fridays devotion, known as the Great Promise, and the miraculous cure of St. Gemma Galgani, as well as many profound exhortations to offer reparation to the Sacred Heart.

Our Lord instituted this authoritative and moving devotion Himself, saying, "I set neither limit nor measure to My gifts of grace for those who seek them in My heart."

In our age of religious indifference, when fervor and charity have grown cold, Jesus exhibits to the world His Sacred Heart as the symbol of God's infinite love showing His Divine Heart as a furnace whose burning rays of love are able to reanimate faith and rekindle love in hearts grown cold and ungrateful.

Meditations and Devotions
Meditations and Devotions
By Cardinal John Henry Newman

To pray is to be a Christian, to be a Saint is to have prayed often. John Henry Cardinal Newman was a man of prayer and this book contains the culmination of his prayers and devotions, divided into three sections.

The first and second part of this book contain the vocal prayers he wrote for public use, the litanies, the Stations of the Cross and short meditations. The long meditations in the third part of the book are intended for private use, which draw one into deeper intimacy with Our Lord.

The prayers are also a testament to his particular devotion to Our Lady, with moving commentaries on several of her titles from the Litany of Loreto. These commentaries are tender and profound, yet without any trace of sentimentality.

Newman’s meditations are full of doctrine. Doctrine is the expression of Truth, and above all things, Newman longed to bear witness to the Truth. It is from the Scriptures, the Church Fathers and the living Church that Newman drew his doctrine, and in his meditations he made it his own.

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Baronius Press)

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Baronius Press

This is the first ever edition that includes the complete Gregorian Chant for the Little Office – in traditional four stave notation! The music for the Little Office has never before been gathered together in one volume. For many people the Gregorian chant of the Little Office offers an introduction to the beauty of the Church's traditional liturgical heritage. This volume will help you sing all the Hours of the Little Office.

Our edition includes a commentary on the rubrics and ceremonial by "A Master of Novices" (which was first published in the early twentieth century), and also includes a description of the indulgences with which the recitation of the Little Office has been enriched by Holy Mother Church.

The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a shorter form of the Divine Office in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It has long been the Church's daily liturgical prayer to Our Lady, and these hours of praise have been used by Priests, religious and the laity throughout the centuries. Lay people used to flock to the great Cathedrals to publicly recite The Little Office during the Middle Ages, and during the great persecution, when the practice of the Catholic Faith was illegal in Great Britain, Bishop Challoner commended The Little Office to his flock.

Through its psalms, antiphons, readings, responsorials, and prayers the Little Office stresses the role Our Lady played in salvation history, and how through her fiat the divine Word took flesh in her womb and achieved salvation for us all; and how Our Lord granted her the first fruits of the general resurrection in her holy and glorious assumption.

All Catholics are called to a consistent prayer life. For those who do not feel called to recite the Divine Office, but still wish to participate in the liturgical prayer of the Church, or for those who have a particular devotion to the holy Mother of God, there is no finer form of prayer than the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Features include:

  • Based on an edition published just after the Reform Act in 1850 (allowing English Catholics to openly practice the Faith).
  • English translation uses traditional language – with scripture taken from Bishop Challoner's version of the Douay-Rheims Bible.
  • Fully updated to comply with the editio typica of the Breviary (1961).
  • The first ever edition to include the complete Gregorian chants for the Little Office.
  • Meditations before each hour from the mediaeval Mirror of Our Lady.
  • Latin-English, red and black text.
  • Psalms from the Vulgate.
  • Flexible leather cover with stitched edge, gold gilding, 2 ribbons.

Devotion to the Infant Jesus of Prague
Devotion to the Infant Jesus of Prague
Devotion to the Infant Jesus of Prague
by approved sources

"Have pity on me, and I will have pity on you. Give me my hands, and I will give you peace. The more you honour me, the more I will bless you."

The little child Jesus is King of the Universe. The Holy Infancy of God is an often unremarked-upon and yet wholly integral part of the mystery of the Incarnation. Not only did the Infinite God become a finite man, but He became a little baby, and a little boy. No devotion gives more honor and glory to this Little King than the devotion to the Infant Jesus of Prague.

While its origins are shrouded in mystery, this little statuette has its origins in Spain, with some saying it even belonged to St. Teresa of Avila. Taken to Bohemia by a Spanish noblewoman who married a Bohemian, the little statue of God was later given by her daughter, Princess Polyxena von Lobkowicz, to a Carmelite monastery in Prague. Cast aside in a rubbish heap by the conquering Protestant King of Sweden, it remained there for seven years, with its hands broken off, until one Fr. Cyrillus found the statue and returned it to a place of honor. Since then, the famous devotion has only grown, and the Little King has conquered the hearts of many with His glorious rule of charity. May he conquer your heart too.

ABCs of the Christian Life
ABCs of the Christian Life
The Ultimate Anthology of the Prince of Paradox
by G. K. Chesterton

This anthology combines twenty-six of the most essential passages from his works—from "A" for asceticism to "Z" for Zion—offering an unprecedented roundup of Chesterton’s ideas on the Christian life.

Why does it make good sense to be Catholic in the modern world?

How might a Christian balance the feasts of saints with Christ’s call to asceticism?

What is useful about holy foolishness?

What’s dangerous about "comparative religion"?

Chesterton, whose enduring legacy is as a Christian thinker and apologist, offers his thoughts on these topics and more in this unique anthology of his work. Chesterton converted to Catholicism midway through his career of writing some of his century’s most important spiritual and theological works, including Orthodoxy, Saint Thomas Aquinas: The Dumb Ox, and Saint Francis of Assisi. He is known for having written many memorable sentences—he was a master of witty one-liners—but as this book demonstrates for the first time, Chesterton also penned some of the best long passages of Christian literature in the history of the faith.

After reading ABCs of the Christian Life, you will come away with a better understanding not only of Chesterton, but of the Christian faith as well.

Letters to My Lord
Letters to My Lord
Intimate Conversations with Christ
by Fr. Daniel A. Lord, S.J.

In this rediscovered spiritual classic, Rev. Daniel A. Lord, S.J., offers a collection of sixteen deeply personal letters written to Christ as Lord was dying of cancer. Known as “the Hollywood priest” because of his involvement in the film industry, Lord was the author of ninety books and almost three hundred pamphlets. First published in 1963 and now back in print, these letters are still a shining example of an intimate relationship with Christ and a model of how to talk with God in an honest and intimate way.

In 1954, Fr. Daniel Lord made his annual Ignatian retreat while being treated in a St. Louis Hospital. On the second day of his eight-day retreat, Lord learned that his lung cancer would leave him with only a short time to live. He shares his reflections in this collection of letters written to Christ. Remarkably, Lord doesn’t write about his cancer, and if not for the introduction by the book’s original editor, Rev. Thomas Gavin, S.J., readers would never know of it.

Following the path of the Spiritual Exercises, Lord eloquently expresses gratitude and praise; acknowledges his complete dependence on God; confesses the constant repetition of the same boring sins; and reflects on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. But this is no ordinary retreat companion. Lord’s originality and lively imagination shine through as he reflects on the beauty of a hyacinth, compares himself to a goldfish in a bowl, and pictures the scene of himself standing before God in judgment.

This new edition includes a foreword by Michael Rossmann, S.J., editor of the Jesuit Post, and an introduction to Fr. Daniel Lord’s life and work by US Catholic historian Rev. David Endres. Lord’s popular article, “Cancer Is My Friend” is included as an epilogue.

Confessions of a Convert
Confessions of a Convert
The Classic Spiritual Autobiography from the Author of Lord of the World
by Msgr Robert Hugh Benson

Benson weaves those challenges into Confessions of a Convert as he examines his own life for the signs and wonders that illuminated his way. He was astonished at how the remote God of his Anglican upbringing drew close to him, igniting a fire in his to heart and a desire to know God on a deeper level. This transformation led him to the doorstep of the Catholic Church. Reluctant to venture further because he was known as an important figure in the Anglican world, Benson grappled with the sacrifices he would make, including the loss of his vocation, family, and friends. After the death of his father, Benson finally embraced the nearness of God found in the Eucharist.

He shows us that coming closer to Christ and his Church is not always neat and tidy. Benson’s humor and humility help bridge the century-long gap between his time and ours and he teaches us to embrace the questions, struggles, and falterings of our faith in a way that’s full of God’s love.

How to Pray Always
How to Pray Always
How to Pray Always
by Fr. Raoul Plus, S.J.

Christ urges us to pray without ceasing, but when we try to do so, many of us simply cease without praying. We're distracted by troubles or duty or we quit just because it's late already and we're tired.

Fr. Raoul Plus's no-nonsense prayer manual, How to Pray Always, remedies these problems by dispelling the false notions of prayer we all have and showing how we can, in fact, pray without ceasing - even at times when exhaustion cripples us and cares threaten to sweep us away.

Drawing on the experience of dozens of saints, Fr. Plus explains sure ways we can recollect ourselves before prayer so that once we begin to pray, our prayers will be richer and more productive; he teaches us how to practice interior silence habitually, even in the rush and noise of the world; and he explains each of the kinds of prayer and shows when we should - and should not - employ each.

As humans, our minds are limited and it's generally hard for us to pay attention to more than a few things at once. That's why most of us aren't able to think of God or pray while we fulfill any but the most mindless of our daily duties.

No problem.

For such busy occasions (which constitute most of the time for most of us), Fr. Plus explains how we can pray without words by keeping our wills united to God even when our minds must be directed elsewhere.

In other words, How to Pray Always is one of those rare books that actually fulfills the promise of its title. It helps us become better Christians by showing us how to know, to love, and to serve God, and to live prayerfully and constantly in His loving presence.

The Roman Ritual
The Roman Ritual

In Latin & English with Rubrics and Plainchant Notation
Vol 1: The Sacraments & Processions;
Vol 2: Christian Burial, Exorcism, Reserved Blessings, etc.;
Vol 3: The Blessings

An exact reprint of 1945-1952 imprimatur edition.

This traditional ritual is unique since it is in Latin with an English translation. Moreover, there is an extensive commentary on many of the sacraments and ceremonies. The actual texts for the prayers are printed in black and the rubrics are red. A ribbon is included in each of the volumes. The sturdy hardback binding should last for many years of use by members of the clergy when administering the sacraments or performing the ceremonies involved. These are liturgical books, in that sense. The books are printed with real ink, properly sewn so that the pages do not come out and they are bound in imitation leather, each volume is a different color. We did add a supplement in volume 2 since it did not include the “Litany of the Precious Blood.” The other official litanies are included, but this last litany was promulgated in 1960 so it didn’t find its way into the original printing.

Hardcover, size 8.6" x 5.5", Vol. 1: The Sacraments & Processions 607 pages (red binding); Vol 2: Christian Burial, Exorcism, Reserved Blessings, etc. 480 pages (black binding); Vol 3: The Blessings 498 pages (green binding)

Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and The Office of the Dead
by Angelus Press

The best prayer is the prayer of the Church. Here it is—simpler than the Breviary, but essentially the same. Pray the inspired psalms of the Holy Ghost. Around since the 8th century. Hated by heretics, loved by friends of Our Lady. Recited by Saints John Damascene, Catherine of Siena, Vincent Ferrer, Louis of France, Bridget of Sweden, and many more.

The text of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Office of the Dead is that of the 1915 Benziger Brothers edition with updated punctuation and slight rewording of some familiar passages in English. The content of the Offices was revised in conformity with the norms of the typical edition of the Roman Breviary published in 1961.

Completely re-typeset with the Latin and English text on facing pages. Angelus Press offers this beautiful edition to the faithful as an eminently readable and truly affordable format. Printed in red and black text. Gold foil stamped, black, flexible softcover with rounded corners.
