The Reality of The Body And Blood of Christ In The Eucharist

The Reality of The Body And Blood of Christ In The Eucharist
by St John Fisher

Protestants deny the Real Presence, but we as Catholics possess the truth and can present an unassailable defense of it.

Did Jesus Christ, the God-man, truly bestow upon humanity the gift of His Real Presence under the form of bread and wine?

This was the question raised by the Protestants of the early 16th century. Johannes Oecolampadius, a well-known and respected Swiss reformer, was not the first to challenge this fundamental and sacred Catholic doctrine, but he was the first to widely disseminate his views through print.

This book, now available in English for the first time, is Bishop John Fisher's counterargument against Oecolampadius. It offers a compelling refutation of errors and passionately defends the Holy Eucharist based on scripture and 1500 years of Catholic theology.

St. John Fisher's book is even more pertinent today than it was during the Protestant Reformation, as many Catholics are now experiencing doubts regarding Transubstantiation. There is no stronger defense of the Holy Eucharist than St. John Fisher's "De Veritate" when addressing the concerns of Protestants and Catholics in the post-Vatican II era.

This beautiful cloth-covered edition spans over 425 pages and will make a lasting and stunning addition to any Catholic library.

A Story of Saint Thomas Aquinas
by Brother Edward Overstreet, CSC

On Decemeber 6th, 1273, the great philosopher and theologian, Thomas Aquinas, was humbly kneeling in front of the Blessed Sacrament. A witness reported that he saw Thomas rising up in the air in front of the large crucifix. He then heard the crucifix speak, "Thou hast written well of Me, Thomas. What reward do you ask?" Then Thomas replied, "Only Thyself, Lord." Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of Saint Thomas Aquinas, who had a burning love and devotion to Christ in the Eucharist.

St Nicholas
St Nicholas
Patron and Protector of Switzerland 1417-1487

This great 15th century saint is a burning torch still giving light to his countrymen and to the entire Church. His life reminds us that holiness can be pursued in every vocation. Saint Nicholas of Flue was a soldier, a farmer, a magistrate, a husband, the father of a large family, and a hermit for the last 20 years of his life.

He was very devoted to our Lady and the Holy Eucharist. Separate investigations of the religious and civil authorities of the day attest to Saint Nicholas's eating nothing besides daily Communion for years.Forty years before Martin Luther kicked off the "reformation," Saint Nicholas warned his people not to be deceived by the coming apostasy. "An unfortunate time of revolt and dissension in the Church of Jesus Christ is on the way. O my children, do not let yourselves be misled by any innovations! Stay together and hold fast. Stay on the same way, the same paths as your pious ancestors. That is how you will resist the attacks, tempests, and storms that are going to rise up with violence.

"If that isn't incredible enough, God also showed him a great apostasy which will sound all too familiar to traditional Catholics. Saint Nicholas warned, "The Church will be punished, for the majority of its members, great and small, will become very perverted. The Church will sink deeper and deeper until it finally seems to have been destroyed, and the Succession of Peter and the other Apostles will seem to have ended. But after that, it will be triumphantly exalted in the sight of all doubters."

Pocket size, a joy to read, abundantly illustrated.

The Holy Eucharist Our All
The Holy Eucharist Our All
The Holy Eucharist Our All
by Fr. Lucas Etlin, O.S.B.

The Holy Eucharist is our everything, because it is God Himself. It is the source and the summit of Christianity, the point of origin and the final destination of each of us. The Christian faithful have always given great honor to Our Lord truly present Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Most Blessed Sacrament. But in this age of lawless contempt of what is sacred and spiteful indifference to (or even unbelief of) Our Lord's presence under the appearance of bread and wine, it behooves us ever more urgently to worship Him in the majestic humility of this Sacrament of Sacraments.

Fr. Etlin guides us through a meditation on the Blessed Sacrament as:
  • our life
  • our food
  • our expiation
  • our salvation
  • our treasury of grace
  • and, most of all, the best proof of the Divine Love for us.

This short book will evince from you an ever more humble, earnest, and gentle devotion to Christ in the Sacrament of His Body, present for all on every altar and in every tabernacle throughout the world. All the more fitting is the book's brevity, since upon reading, you will long to rush to God's dwelling place and lay your head against His breast.

Sweet Sacrament, we Thee adore! Oh, make us love Thee more and more!

The Seraphic Order

The Seraphic Order
A Traditional Franciscan Book of Saints
by Fr Marion A. Habig, OFM and Sr Aquinas Barth

Among the followers of St. Francis there were saints and teachers who were endowed by God with a natural and supernatural kinship with their holy founder. They developed the Franciscan spirituality which had its origin in the simple practical life and the rules of St. Francis; and they gave further, clearer expression to it both by their lives and their writings. Thus they pointed out the characteristic traits of Franciscan spirituality, both in a practical and a theoretical way.

Concerning the distinctive features of Franciscan spirituality, as contained in the Franciscan tradition, suffice it to say that its essence is doctrinal Christocentrism and practical imitation of Christ, conformity with Christ, prompted by love. Distinctive aspects of Franciscan piety are childlike love of God, our Father, devotion to the Humanity of Christ, His Sacred Heart, the Holy Eucharist, the mysteries of the Nativity and the Passion, His Virgin Mother Mary, and reverence for the Catholic priesthood. Franciscan love of God finds expression also in charity to our fellowmen, understanding them as our brothers, especially in aid to the poor and sick and in apostolic zeal for souls, Christian and pagan. Total poverty detaches the Franciscan soul from creatures, but at the same time it recognizes God in created things and uses the latter to mount to God. Emphasis is placed on the will, and hence on love and action above speculation. The atmosphere in which the Franciscan spirit develops is one of individual freedom of the spirit, absence of coercive and confining methods, love of enterprise, and a sense of realism. On the path of this traditional Franciscan way of life many have attained sainthood.

Thus, The Seraphic Order, which recounts their lives and virtues, can well serve as a practical textbook of Franciscan spirituality.

Saint of the Eucharist: St Paschal Baylon

Saint of the Eucharist
St Paschal Baylon

by Louis Antoine de Porrentruey

St Paschal Baylon was born on the feast of Pentecost in 1540 in Terre Hermosa, Spain. His parents were poor and grew up tending animals. He was endowed with great piety, and soon gained the respect of the other boys. After receiving a vision, he was inspired to become a Franciscan, and though he was offered a great fortune as an inheritance, nevertheless at 24, begged to be received by the Friars minor at Monteforte. He could always be found with a rosary and had great devotion to the Blessed Virgin. His heart glowed so much with the love of the Holy Eucharist that he received a vision of the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance, supported by angels. In de Porrentruy’s flowing prose, based upon the canonization documents, you’ll learn:

— The depths of holiness of Blessed Paschal,

—His great devotion to Our Lady

—His journeys to France to battle the Huguenots

—The flood of miracles which took place after his death.

St. Paschal is the patron of the Eucharist and Eucharistic Congresses.

“Now, in the glorious ranks of those, the ardor of whose piety towards the great Mystery of the faith was more evident and overflowing, Paschal Baylon holds a most prominent place; for, being gifted with a soul which aspired above all things to Heaven, he embraced a severer mode of life, entering the Order of Minors of the Strict Observance, and from the contemplation of the Holy Eucharist he derived that science and wisdom which placed him, though formerly an unpolished and illiterate man, in a position to solve the most difficult questions of the faith.” —Pope Leo XIII

His Own Received Him Not
“Studying the history of the English Reformation can help us to see how a handful of people—educated, well-positioned and imbued with revolutionary ideology—can force unwanted and destructive changes onto a peaceful nation by using their political power, propaganda, agitation and stirring up riotous mobs of big cities. It happened numerous times during the history of mankind. It always brought about huge economic losses and the murder of a large number of innocent citizens of the society in which the turmoil was instigated by the revolutionary activists.” - J.K. Wittbrodt, Author’s Note

“This book is about those who gave their life for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, saints who were outlawed, mocked and hated by the ruling elite of their times. Their great conflict was played out in prison, in torture chambers and on the scaffold. They gained victory by witnessing to the Catholic dogma of the Mass as a bloodless sacrifice and Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist. Most of them were priests, fugitive in their homeland, who were caught by the pursuivants while saying Mass. Others were lay men and women attending the banned Catholic worship or hiding hunted priests. Some of them were bishops who first fell into schism with Henry VIII due to their cowardice but redeemed themselves during the reign of Edward VI and Elizabeth I by standing up for Catholic dogmas, especially for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. May the example of these saintly English heroes increase our devotion to the Holy Sacrifice of the Altar in our troubled times plagued by disbelief in the sacrificial nature of the Mass and irreverence towards the Blessed Eucharist.” -J.K. Wittbrodt, Author’s Note

This stunning book is a fascinating and essential read for all Catholics of today. Much is to be learned from these heroes who not only kept the Faith but spread it in spite of an anti-catholic government who sought their destruction at all times and at every turn. A must-have for every catholic library.

The Holy Hour in Gethsemane
By Rev. Francis P. Donnelly, S.J. Impr. 1917, 212 pages. In this present work, containing thoughts and prayers for the Holy Hour devotion, the Passion is kept prominent throughout. The Holy hour began with being a commemoration of Christ’s Agony in the Garden and then, as the devotion was always practised before the Blessed Sacrament, thoughts and practices became Eucharistic. Devotions in this book aim to stir up within the faithful compassion with Christ, hatred of sin, a spirit of reparation and kindred feelings and resolves. For seven centuries the Anima Christi has been warming hearts and uplifting souls in earnest devotion. This book also contains Litanies, Prayers and Hymns that bolster the devotions.

Abide In My Love
Abide In My Love
Translated from German by Michael J. Miller

Based on the 6th French edition. This book was composed shortly after World War I by an Italian priest who wished to remain anonymous.

“Manete in dilectione mea”? Our Blessed Lord tells us all, but especially is this counsel given to his chosen vessels, those men of his royal priesthood, so that their priesthood may be one of power and fruitfulness beyond measure. Abide in his love and all power will be given unto you, O Royal sons of David!

This jewel, this precious book, speaks to the heart of every zealous, but sometimes timid, priest who desires to do the will of God and to glorify Him in the infirmity of their humanness. You know who you are my brothers in Christ! You have been called to the most sublime office on earth. You feel unequal to the task. You yearn to do great things for God. You thirst to help souls! Rejoice! Here is the recipe for all you desire. Recommended by Pope Pius XI and penned by an anonymous Italian priest who had just passed through the fire and agony of World War—“the Great War”—this book shall be a light unto your path.

Cast yourself upon the breast wherein beats the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Place yourself in the Eucharistic presence of Him to whom all power in heaven and in earth is given. Here is the exhortation and the instruction. The world needs you more than ever. Become a heroic priest. Deus vult!
