St Pio
by St Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, O.F.M. Cap.
The Meditation Prayer on Mary Immaculate is one of Padre Pio's few published writings, penned before he was forbidden by the Church to publish or to engage in correspondence, this for fear a cult would arise around him.
Here we encounter a profound spiritual penetration into the mystery of Mary's unique and sublime role in our salvation. Though brief, it can be read over and over with great benefit since it is just as the title suggests both a meditation and a prayer on the meaning of Mary.
This booklet also contains a brief sketch of Padre Pio's life and numerous edifying pictures of this saintly stigmatist.

The Last Mass of Padre Pio
The Secret Soul of the Stigmatic Saint
by Alessandro Gnocchni and Mario Palmaro
On September 23, 1968 after having borne the stigmata for exactly 50 years, the saintly Padre Pio died. This holy mystic spent his life as a living imitation of Christ and is the only priest in history to bear the stigmata. During his life, in spite of the physical pain he endured, Fr. Pio continued to say his daily Mass. But part of his suffering was unknown. Fr. Pio wrote a petition appealing directly to Pope Paul VI so as to obtain permission, from the highest ecclesiastical authority on earth, to never be required to say the Novus Ordo Missae.
The existence of this petition was kept secret from the public . . . until now.
Things to learn about this holy friar:
- Mystical vision and calling to be an Alter Christus
- Life-long combat with the demonic spirits
- Profound physical suffering especially during the Canon of the Mass
- His loyalty to the traditions of the Church and the Mass of all times
- His pious admonitions to his spiritual children
“Later, as an aged Capuchin friar, the mere thought of the liturgical reform, which would take effect in 1969, was sufficient to raise in him a holy horror. Throughout his life the holy friar had been obedient even unto martyrdom, but at this time the only request he dared to put forth to the authorities of the Church was to be exempted from the novelties of the impending liturgical reform.”
For the first time published in English read the startling testimony and eyewitness accounts of close friends and spiritual sons of Padre Pio as they reveal his thoughts on the sanctity of the Mass, the changes occurring in the Church during his lifetime, and the chilling effects they would have on the future. Look behind the cloister wall and discover a side of Padre Pio you’ve never seen before.

Stories and Memories of My Mentor and Friend
by Fr. Gabriele Amorth
This colorful memoir offers a rare, up-close glimpse of the life and personality of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, the beloved Italian monk who was blessed with extraordinary gifts.
The late Fr. Amorth—well-known as an exorcist —enjoyed over two decades of a close friendship with the holy, quirky Padre Pio, whom he considered his spiritual father. Adding his own personal experience to a foundation of biographical research, Amorth gives an entertaining and illuminating account of perhaps one of the best-known saints of the twentieth century.
In this book, we span from Padre Pio's childhood—where he cured himself of a disease by wolfing down all his mother's fried bell peppers—to his miracle-filled priesthood, to his Italian gift for mimicry, humor, and storytelling.
Rather than a plaster image of a saint, this book is a portrait of a fully human kind of holiness, proof that even the most astonishing graces can be lived out with simplicity and joy.

by St Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, O.F.M. Cap.
A true treasure of spiritual insights, this little booklet contains the remarkable meditations on the Agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane by Blessed Padre Pio, the stigmatist priest. One of his few writings, the booklet also includes many pictures of Blessed Padre Pio from throughout his ministry. Padre Pio's beautiful and descriptive manner of writing provide a wonderful spiritual insight into that last night of Jesus' human life.
Excerpt: "Jesus has returned to His place of prayer, and another picture, more terrible than the first, presents itself to Him. All our sins with their entire ugliness parade before Him in every detail. He must clothe Himself with this entire unclean mass of human corruption and present Himself before the sanctity of His Father, to expiate everything with individual pains, to render Him all that glory of which they have robbed Him, to cleanse that human cesspool in which man wallows with contemptible indifference. And all this does not make Him retreat. As a raging sea this mass inundates Him, enfolds Him, oppresses Him. Behold Him before His Father the God of Justice, facing the full penalty of divine justice. He, the essence of purity, sanctity by nature, in contact with sin, indeed, as if He Himself had become a sinner! Who can fathom the disgust that He feels in His innermost spirit? The horror He feels? The nausea, the contempt He senses so vividly? And having taken all upon Himself, nothing excepted, He is crushed by this immense weight, oppressed, thrown down, prostrated. Exhausted, He groans beneath the weight of Divine Justice, before His Father, Who has permitted His Son to offer Himself as a Victim for sin, as one accursed."

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887–1968) is probably the best-known saint of our times. A stigmatist since 1915, when he received the wounds of Christ invisibly, he bore these marks visibly from 1918 until his death. Padre Pio possessed remarkable gifts, including celestial perfume, the reading of hearts, bilocation, prophetic insight, miraculous cures and remarkable conversions. Plus, he could smell the stench of sin in penitents.
Though Padre Pio was renowned and sought out as a confessor, it was his indescribably edifying way of saying Mass that affected most people. Though forbidden under obedience to write letters or to preach, this humble Capuchin monk became known worldwide for his counsel, piety and spiritual direction. Who Is Padre Pio is a brief, incisive and absorbingly interesting account of a priest who was canonized in 2002 and who certainly ranks among the church\'s greatest saints. It was written anonymously by a former Mason converted by Padre Pio, and is laid at the feet of the Church in humble thanksgiving to the man who put him on the way of salvation.

Padre Pio died on September 23, 1968, his funeral attended by over 100,000 people. During the fifty-eight years he was a priest, his monastery at San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, became a mecca for pilgrims from all over the world. Born Francesco Forgione on May 25, 1887 in the town of Pietrelcina in southeastern Italy, Padre Pio joined the Capuchin Order in 1903 and was ordained in 1910. On September 20, 1918 he received the sacred wounds of Christ, the stigmata, which he bore the rest of his life.
Renowned for the stigmata, which modern medical science could not explain, Padre Pio also possessed other unusual qualities, such as bilocation, celestial perfume, reading of hearts, miraculous cures, remarkable conversions, and prophetic insight. Although he did not leave his monastery and was under obedience not to write or preach, this humble Capuchin monk became world famous for his piety, his counsel, and his miracles. He was universally regarded as a saint in his own time.
Pope John Paul II beatified Padre Pio of Pietrelcina on Sunday, May 2, 1999 in St. Peter's Basilica Square before a throng of 650,000 devotees of this famed 20th-century stigmatist. His faithful followers now look forward with anticipation to his canonization.

The Secret Vatican Files
by Francesco Castelli
For the First Time Ever - The Secret Vatican Files Fully Revealed on Padre Pio!
Preface by Vittorio Messori (Co-author, The Ratzinger Report)
On June 14, 1921, a priest knocks at the convent in San Giovanni Rotondo. He is in his early forties and wears a simple cassock, but he is no ordinary priest. He is Bishop Raffaello Carlo Rossi, future cardinal and the Apostolic Visitor sent by the Holy Office to investigate secretly Padre Pio.
The Bishop Inquisitor remains with the Capuchin Brothers for eight days, interrogating and recording depositions. He also interviews Padre Pio himself and examins the mysterious wounds of Christ that he bears on his body.
After gathering all the evidence, the Inquisitor sketches his own evaluation of Padre Pio, which includes his reasons for believing that the stigmata are of divine origin. He sends his report and the depositions to Rome, where they stay buried for nearly a century. Now, forty years after the saint's death, these exceptional documents are published in their entirety, thanks to the skillful research of Father Francesco Castelli.
The documents in this book reveal every aspect of Padre Pio's life from his amazing supernatural gifts to his health. In his depositions, he admits, under oath, to the phenomenon of bi-location and to other supernatural charisms, and for the first time tells the detailed story of his stigmatization. Also included are letters from his spiritual father and a chronology of his life. Illustrated with black and white photos.

Formerly The Holy Man on the Mountain
by Frank M. Rega
First titled The Holy Man on the Mountain, this book tells the fascinating life story of Padre Pio, with emphasis on his life as a seminarian, young priest and his early decades at San Giovanni Rotondo. Incredible is the number of times the Capuchins sent him home sick unto death while a seminarian and young priest and how he was finally sent to remote San Giovanni Rotondo “for a couple of weeks of mountain air.” He never left. But from this small, remote mountain friary, he became world-famous and exercised unbelievable influence on the entire world—though early on, he was forbidden by his superiors to preach, to write, or to correspond. A few clerics developed enmity toward Padre Pio, resulting several times in orders from his superiors that he be moved. It is simply hilarious to learn why he never was; though being under obedience, he was entirely willing to do so.
Author Frank Rega also weaves in the Saint’s early work with "L’Americana," Mary Pyle, his “foreign ambassadress,” and then with the American GI’s who came to visit him during World War II, when San Giovanni Rotondo was liberated from the Germans. Padre Pio developed a special love for Americans and America—to the point that he wished that all Americans would become his spiritual children.
This book demonstrate Padre Pio’s great love for his parents, his amazing sense of humor, his abstemious eating, his uncanny knowledge of people (even before they visited), and his profound supernatural awareness. In sum, Padre Pio and America is an inspiring book that will instill a profound awe in readers, because it shows the impact a truly saintly priest can have on all who come into contact with him—and in Padre Pio’s case, even on the whole world!
