Catechism of the Council of Trent (hardcover)
"That golden book known as the Catechism of the Council of Trent, or Roman Catechism … Noted both for the abundance and accuracy of its teaching and for elegance of style, this catechism is a precious summary of the whole of theology, dogmatic and moral." – Leo XIII, Encyclical Depuis Le Jour.
The Council of Trent was called to counter the Protestant Reformation by unambiguously affirming the distinctive truths of the Catholic faith. To disseminate these truths, the Council of Trent commanded a Catechism to be written. Composed under the supervision of St. Charles Borromeo and promulgated by St. Pope St. Pius V, its value as an authoritative exposition of the Catholic faith has only increased through the centuries.
While originally intended for priests to use alongside the Sacred Scriptures in defending the faith, its straightforward and logical explanation of Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings makes it a useful reference and guide for the laity more than 400 years after it was first published. Today, it continues to enlighten souls who seek to discern between true and false teachings.
This edition is the definitive translation of the Catechism of the Council of Trent from the original Latin. The book is divided into four parts which explain, respectively, the Articles of Faith, the Seven Sacraments, the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer. There are also appendices on the Immaculate Conception, Papal Infallibility, Christian Marriage and on Frequent and Daily Communion.

by Fr Léon Roger
Every great society possesses a distinctive mark by which its members are recognised. Every well-ordered army has a standard beneath which its soldiers rally. Similarly, the members of the society which is the Church must have a mark or a sign by which they may be recognised. This sign is the sign of the Cross. The standard beneath which the soldiers of Christ rally is the Cross.
This short but profound book looks at the sign of the Cross, first in itself: its historical origins, its composition, its dogmatic and moral significance. Then it examines the place of this sign in the Church’s liturgy. Finally, it focuses on the power of the sign of the Cross and its wonderful effects.
The author, Father Léon Roger, was Chaplain of the Basilica of Notre-Dame des Victoires in Paris at the beginning of the twentieth century.

by Fr Júlio Maria de Lombaerde
The author of this book, the great Belgian missionary and apologist, Father Júlio Maria de Lombaerde (1878-1944), spent most of his priestly life in Brazil.
Hearing from a fellow priest that there were some Muslims in Brazil, he decided to write a succinct, clear and simple explanation of the life and doctrine of Mohammed in order to provide them with “irrefutable proof of the entirely human origin of their sect and give Catholics more conviction and firmness in the practical profession of their religion, the only Divine one.”
“May these pages be a ray of light for souls and direct them towards the truth,” he writes. “This is the author’s only hope.”

Cur Deus Homo
by Don Caspar Gilli
In St. Anselm of Canterbury's foundational theological work, Why God Became Man (Cur Deus Homo), delve into a profound and meticulously reasoned exploration of the Incarnation and Atonement. Written in the 11th century as a dialogue, Anselm addresses the fundamental question of why God, being omnipotent, chose to redeem humanity through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, rather than by a simple act of divine will. He masterfully articulates the satisfaction theory of atonement, arguing that humanity's sin incurred an infinite debt to God's honor, a debt only an infinite being—God Himself—could repay. This seminal text continues to be a cornerstone of Christian theology, offering timeless insights into the nature of God, sin, justice, and salvation. A must-read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the theological underpinnings of Christianity.

Finding the Meaning of Life Within God's Plan
by Venerable Louis of Grenada
What is the meaning of life? What is love? How can I be happy?
These are questions that people today often ask rhetorically, as though there were no answer. Others hunt down answers in self-help books, guides from experts, or television.
The great Dominican, Venerable Louis of Granada, best known for his work The Sinner’s Guide, penned this treatise—The Quest for Happiness—to help us see that we cannot trust in man’s own work to bring about happiness. What is the meaning of life? It is not a rhetorical question, rather, the Church has the answer! To know, love and serve almighty God. This book gives the answer of how to proceed on such a quest out of the unhappiness of the world and toward the happiness of God.
This new edition of Venerable Louis’ work, lightly edited and adjusted for the problems that modern man faces today, is a map to navigate the wasteland of modernity and discover true happiness.

It is concise enough for the busiest of men, erudite enough for the most scholarly, and simple enough for the humblest of our people. That it may teach many to love and respect the great Sacrament of Matrimony is our ardent wish.”

This book explains fasting and how it has changed over the centuries in one of the most complete compilations yet written. Unfortunately, most summaries of fasting are either inaccurate or incomplete. However, rather than being a mere academic exercise, the purpose of studying the history of fasting is ultimately to help us rediscover these more ancient practices in an attempt to better observe Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother’s call for penance and reparation for sins.
As Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen once remarked, “It is a long-established principle of the Church never to completely drop from her public worship any ceremony, object or prayer which once occupied a place in that worship.” The same may be said for matters concerning either Holy Days of Obligation or fast days. What our forefathers held sacred should remain sacred to us in an effort to preserve our catholicity not only with ourselves but with our ancestors who see God now in Heaven.
The 2nd edition features the following topics which were not covered (or covered only briefly) in the first edition, including detailed explanations of how fasting changed in other countries besides America, including Spain and the Philippines, a detailed explanation of who was exempt from fasting and/or abstinence and how those changes were documented and taught in various catechisms over the centuries. Mr. Plese also cover Easter Week food traditions, highlighting their connection with the Lenten fast, Armenian fasting and abstinence rigors, Maronite fasting guidelines, the heroic example of St. John of the Cross and the Primitive Rule of Pope Innocent IV vs. the mitigated rule approved by Pope Eugenius IV, how the time of the meal on fasting days differed (e.g., sunset for Ember Days but 3 PM for the weekly devotional fasts), and so much more.
Even priests have said that 95% of the book's content is new and was not taught to them!

Translated and Introduced by Rev. H. J. Schroeder
This Council of Trent (1545-1563) spanned the pontificates of five popes and shone as a beacon to all the world, condemning errors of the Protestant Reformation and making pronouncements on a vast number of Church doctrines and disciplines.
In this volume of The Canons and Decrees of the Council of Trent, originally published in 1941, Fr. H. J. Schroeder, O.P., provides an exact translation of the texts promulgated by the council and elucidates its momentous accomplishments. Readers will find the text of the documents as here presented refreshingly clear and definitive, as characteristic of the Church's official pronouncements. Covered within are the official decrees on such elements of Catholic doctrine as:
- Transubstantiation of the Eucharist
- The nature of the Mass
- Penance
- Extreme Unction
- Matrimony as a sacrament
- Holy Orders
- Original Sin
- Veneration of saints, Relics, and Our Lady
- And far more!
Footnotes with Scriptural references are provided throughout the text, as well as internal cross-references between different parts of the council's decrees. Lovers of Church history, the development of doctrine, and Catholic truth will not want to miss this magnificent translation of one of the greatest of the 21 ecumenical councils of the Catholic Church.
